About
Linda Carmichael B.A., S. T.A.T.
I am a graduate of The Royal Scottish Conservatoire. I worked as an actress in theatre, television, and radio in Scotland in my late twenties and early thirties. Alexander Technique was part of my training as an actor. So, when I had young children, I returned to college for three years and qualified as an Alexander Teacher from The Alexander Technique Institute in South Devon, England.
I was in private practice starting in the eighties and have worked extensively with people from all walks of life. I have sometimes combined my acting and voice training skills with the Alexander Technique to coach people in Public Speaking.
Over the years, I have conducted Alexander Technique workshops at Berklee College of Music, The ART Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University, Lesley University Dance Therapy program, The Harvard Radcliffe Chorus, and for a time, I was the Alexander Teacher for Actors Shakespeare Project in the greater Boston Area. Besides workshops, I had a private studio in Davis Square Somerville, MA, for many years.
At the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic, it was clear that the 'hands-on' nature of the AT would not work, and I decided to close my practice and move to NH. I have since been coaching Public speaking online and have conducted in-person workshops with various groups, including Rights and Democracy NH.
I was recently approached by someone who wanted to learn the Alexander Technique. I was coaxed out of retirement, and I am delighted to be teaching this wonderful discipline once again. My passion for The Alexander Technique and helping people to change and develop has been renewed, and after a lovely long rest, I'm ready to go!
